The Abbey of San Galgano
The Abbey of San Galgano is located 30 km from Siena. It consists of two buildings: the «Rotonda di Montesiepi» and the great Abbey, now reduced only to its walls.
Within the Rotunda, we find the famous sword planted in stone. Legend has it that after a disorderly youth, Galgano withdrew into a reclusive life of a hermit. On Christmas day in 1180, the Saint planted his sword in the ground, which is now a major tourist attraction.
The Duomo of San Gimignano
