Pesto Genovese is the quintessential pesto recipe, with origins in the Ligurian province and city of Genoa, this pesto is one of the region’s most beloved exports.

Pesto Genovese’s ingredients include Basilico Genovese DOP, Riviera Ligure DOP extra virgin olive oil, Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, garlic, pine nuts, sea salt and walnuts. It is best known for its instantly recognizable and pleasant aroma brought on by the mixing of its ingredients, specifically the garlic, basil and cheese.

Pesto has always been used to enrich pasta dishes, especially the Ligurian trofie pasta variety, it is typically paired with a white wine, specifically Pigato DOC from Liguria.
