Burrata di Andria IGP is a typical product of the Puglia region in Italy’s southeast. The word burrata, means “buttered” in Italian, which is in reference to its its creaming and spongy filling.
The cheese is usually served fresh and has a rich, buttery flavour which goes well with salad, prosciutto crudo, bread, fresh tomatoes or pasta. Burrata is a highly regarded Italian cheese product and is renowned around the world.
The legend of the Burrata di Andria IGP dates back to the 1930s, when cheesemaker Lorenzo Bianchino created this pasta filata pouch filled with cream and mozzarella rags. The typical closing with the topknot is the distinctive mark of this IGP product, that is produced by a few cheesemakers in Puglia and it’s one of the most particular and fine cheese of the region.
