Umberto Cesari has been the ambassador of Sangiovese in the world for over 50 years. Respect for the environment and tradition, combined with the most modern technologies, are at the base of the company’s fundamental values that extend over 350 hectares on the hills of Castel San Pietro Terme.

Umberto Cesari is located on the hills overlooking the ancient Via Emilia, on the border between Emilia and Romagna, at an altitude ranging from 75 to 250 meters above sea level.

In Castel San Pietro Terme, Umberto Cesari and his wife Giuliana started their business in the early 1960s. Among the first to believe in the potential of wines from Emilia Romagna, he decided to found the company that today bears his name, investing all his efforts in enhancing the local native vines at a time when quality and typicality were concepts away.

Among the first winegrowers in the region to focus on quality production, over the years, it has been able to combine the most advanced technologies and techniques with respect for tradition and the environment. The original 20 hectares have expanded over the years, reaching 175 hectares of owned vineyards and 180 for rent.

Everything starts here, from these 8 estates: Claterna, Casetta, Parolino, Laurento, Cà Grande, Miravalle, Tauleto and Liano. 355 hectares of vineyards protected by a crown of clayey rocks: the Calanchi Azzurri, so-called because of the cerulean colour that the slopes take on sunny days. The same gullies that, together with the marked characterization of the seasons, favour a mild climate characterized by a high-temperature range, constant wind and lots of sunshine.

The 8 estates are managed according to the roles of sustainable viticulture. The grapes harvested in the vineyards are processed using the most modern and advanced vinification techniques, with the utmost respect for the winemaking tradition and the environment. Umberto Cesari was among the first in Emilia Romagna to believe in the great potential of the typical grapes of the Region, Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Albana di Romagna and Pignoletto, to name a few, to which were added important international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
