Terre di Pisa is a new consortium, founded in 2018, to promote the high-quality production of wine around the municipalities of Fauglia, Crespina, Lari, Chianni, Capannoni, Palaia, Peccioli, Terricciola, Casciana Terme, Ponsacco, Pontedera, Montopoli V.A., San Miniato, Orciano Pisano, Lorenzana and Santa Luce, all of them in the Pisa province.
The main grape is Sangiovese, however there are also international varieties that are grown in Tuscany such as Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. A long maturation period is required for this wine (at least 16 months), and 24 months of maturation in oak barrels for the Riserva wine.
The foothills near Pisa are the perfect environment to produce wine as the soils, which are rich in limestone and clay give the wines a distinct acidity. Terre di Pisa DOC is a land full of biodiversity where woods alternate with vineyards and nature find its own balance.
