Sordo Giovanni

Three generations of great wines.

The farm of Sordo Giovanni, now run by his son Giorgio, is located a few kilometres from Alba, at the foot of the Barolo Hill, in the Cuneo Province. Founded in the early 1900s by the present owner’s grandfather Giuseppe, the family business in winegrowing now extends over three generations, and numerous vineyards acquired by Giovanni (Giorgio’s father) and his wife Maria in I Sori, some of the finest lands in the Barolo Region.

This region’s soil is made up of very deep and compact calcareous marl, rich in micronutrients that provide an ideal growing environment for the vines. Extremely vigorous and demanding varietals like the Nebbiolo grape are at home in the Langhe’s typical climate, which has always yielded fragrant, age-worthy wines of great prestige.

Today, the vineyards extend over 53 hectares, distributed in the municipal areas of Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d’Alba, Monforte d’Alba, Barolo, Novello, La Morra, Verduno, Grinzane Cavour and Vezza d’Alba. Their state-of-the-art plants are fully equipped for winemaking, storage and bottling, including an impressive aging cellar, fitted with over one hundred high capacity oak barrels for the wine to mature in and develop perfectly. From vine to cellar, the production processes are consistent with the tried-and-tested ancestral methods, handed down by past generations of winemakers.
