Ostia Ripiena

Ostia Ripiena, which translates to “stuffed wafers” in English, is a typical dessert from the town of Monte Sant’Angelo, in the southern region of Puglia.

Presentation

Ostia Ripiena consists of two cream coloured oval wafers, that have a filling made of toasted almonds, caramelized sugar and honey, with a pinch of cinnamon added for a little spice.

The taste is sweet and pleasant with a characteristic bitter aftertaste. It was created by for the first time by the Clarisse nuns in the kitchen of the monastery of the Church of the Holy Trinity located in the town of Monte Sant’Angelo.
