Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo manages to combine a distinct structure and unforgettable freshness. Since 2010, this rosé wine is the first denomination in Italy dedicated solely to the production of rosés.
Cerasuolo is obtained from Montepulciano grapes using a particular winemaking technique, which consists in limiting the fermentation period in the presence of the peels to a few hours or through a “white” vinification. It is an ancient method, which has always been widespread in the land of Abruzzo. Over the years it has undergone a constant technical evolution while always remaining strongly linked to tradition.
The grapes used for the production of wines with Denomination of Controlled Origin “Cerasuolo” d’Abruzzo” must be obtained only from vineyards located on land suited to quality, situated in hilly areas whose altitude does not exceed 500 meters above sea level and exceptionally at 600 meters for those facing the sun.
Soils that are not sufficiently sunny and those located in humid valley floors are to be excluded.
The Denomination of Controlled Origin “Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo” is reserved for wines obtained from the grapes of the Montepulciano vine with at least 85% of its composition. The remaining 15% can include grapes of other non-aromatic red grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region.
Wines with Denomination of Controlled Origin “Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo”, at the time of release for consumption, must meet specific characteristics such as the cherry pink color and the minimum total alcoholic strength by volume which is 12,00% vol. for the classic Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo and 12,50% vol. for Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Superiore.
Its extraordinary freshness combined with the elegance of its aromas make Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo a particularly pleasant and fascinating wine. Its smell is pleasant, delicately vinous, fruity, fine and intense; the taste is dry, soft, harmonious and delicate, with an almond aftertaste.
