Cantine Artese

The story of the Cantine Artese winery begins with a deep love for viticulture which dates back three generations and continues to this day. This winery combines its passion for creating indigenous wines with new developments in wine tourism to create a truly unique Calabrian experience.

Cantine Artese is located in Porto Salvo, in the Vibo Valentia province of Calabria. First founded in 2009 by Antonio Artese, the spirit of Cantine Artese was birthed by Antonio’s father Gregorio Artese has been cultivating a small vineyard and other agricultural fields since the 1950s. His loving care for nature, his vineyards and the surrounding landscape were easily passed onto his son Antonio, who then founded Cantine Artese.

The vineyards are located in the hilly area of Madama di Zambrone, about 150 meters above sea level, with southwestern sun exposure. From different parts of the vineyard, it is possible to admire the clear blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea and its beautiful beaches. The sea breeze and the microclimate created around the vine are ideal for the growth of Cantine Artese’s grapes. The clay-like soil is fertile and has a balanced supply of minerals, characteristics that have allowed for the growth of high-quality wines in the region for centuries dating back to ancient times.

The winery is located in the splendid setting of the Costa degli Dei, which translates to the “Coast of the Gods. More specifically, the vineyards are located a few kilometres from the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Tropea, a trendy destination for tourists from all over the world.

Cantine Artese is committed to celebrating the local indigenous and historic wines from the region of Calabrian. With their wineries in Zambrone, one of the winery’s main objectives is to recover Zibibbo, a historical grape variety indigenous to the terroir but abandoned in local winemaking for several years. Their priority has always been to increase the quality of their wines which are all from the Calabria IGT wine appellation.
