Poderi Marini

The Marini Family Farms are located in San Demetrio Corone, a hill resort of the Ionian Cosentino. At its core, the family business has focused on the value of respect with regards to its relationship to the land, people and the environment which they have inhabited for over 300 years. Initially, the family began with olive cultivation and the production of oil, and still today, the family owns 130 olive yards spread out over 300 hectares. The family also devoted some of its land to the production of the Calabrian Clementine, a flagship product of regional agriculture.

Starting in 2003, the family wanted to rediscover and reinterpret in a modern way, an ancient tradition that has always been present in this area: quality viticulture. 7 hectares of vineyards were planted along the clay and hilly terrain of the area and a new winery, situated at about 500m above sea level. The family produces a variety of different vines ranging from the native Aglianico and Magliocco, to the international Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, for reds, and Chardonnay and Sauvignon, for whites. The system adopted in all the vineyards is the cordon, the density of the vines is 5,200 vines/ha with productions never above 60q/ha. With new and modern wine-making technologies and machinery, the family was able to adopt the productive practice of biological farming which contributes to their goal of environmental sustainability.
