In addition to the dominant local varieties of Schiava and Lagrein, there are a variety of French and German varietals due to the regions proximity to both countries. The most widely planted variety of all is Schiava, makes a mid-bodied, pale-hued wines with low levels of alcohol and tannin. Other wines in the region are full-bodied reds and whites with a robust flavour. The wines pair well with white meats such as chicken or porc, as well as steamed vegetables and soups
