Since 1990 the Gioffreda family has invested energy and passion into Casa al Vento, in the area of Gaiole in Chianti (Siena), in order to give the property its former prestige.
In recent years the vineyard has converted most of its 15 hectares to olive oil production and developed an entirely new land dedicated to growing Sangiovese and Merlot grapes. With its strong focus on eco-friendly production methods, the vineyard is currently on its way towards gaining its organic certification.
From the meticulous pruning of the vines in the field to the careful picking and sorting of the grapes by hand, every stage of production at Casa al Vento is a ritual homage to the art of winemaking. Once the grapes are gently crushed, the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks and specially selected oak barrels that can store up to 400 hectoliters at an optimal temperature monitored by a central computer. It is within the heart of this authentic jewel of technology and rural architecture, in complete harmony with the surrounding landscape, that the Casa al Vento’s signature wines will age over the next 18 months to reach their impeccable trademark flavour.

When was the last time you had dinner in an Italian restaurant in Canada and you thought you were dining in Italy? That’s exactly how “Ospitalità Italiana Certified”restaurants want you to feel when you visit their fine dining establishments.
Ospitalità Italiana is an official certification from Unioncamere, Italy’s federation of local Chambers of Commerce and Industry, that tells you that the food you are enjoying is unquestionably Italian: products are authentic, ingredients genuine and recipes true to the thousand year history of Italian cuisine.
Canada is home to some leading Italian Chefs. Passionate and innovative, many have refined their skills and advanced their knowledge directly in Italy. In addition, Montréal boasts a fabulous cooking school ITHQ where young aspiring chefs learn Italian technic and Italian traditional recipes from the masters.
So the next time you make reservations for an Italian dinner in a Montreal restaurant, ask if they’ve received the Ospitalità Italiana seal of approval. You will enjoy the true Italian taste.
