La Faletta
Overview
Cascina Faletta was built in the late 1800s.
Now run by Elena and Giovanni Rosso, the vineyard has undergone meticulous renovation, preserving as much of the original structure as possible in order to conserve the rich history of the building and the people who have inhabited over time, like its first owner Marchesa Virginia.
Tenaciously and passionately continuing the project started by their grandparents who worked the surrounding lands as early as the 1920s, Elena and Giovanni have now taken the vineyard into the 21st century and fitted it with various cutting-edge technologies, not the least of which are an automated network that manages and regulates all of the equipment’s energy consumption, and a heating system that includes special floor, wall and ceiling panels with low thermal inertia. Complete with a set geothermal and aerothermal heat pumps, the vineyard’s total energy balance verges on zero CO2 emissions, making Cascina Faletta one of the greenest facilities in the industry.
This deep-seated love of history and nature permeates everything La Faletta produces, including the stories surrounding each of their signature wines—from their 3 fucili (three rifles) Pinot Nero, named after a mysterious hidden weapons cache was found during the building’s renovation, to their Marchesa Viriginia sparkling wine, a tribute to the vineyard’s former owner, to their Myricae white wine, whose name comes from a famous collection of poems about life in the fields by Giovanni Pascoli. Wine lovers visiting the cellar to taste these various wines are treated with these stories and more, as they enjoy the finest result of La Faletta’s century-old winemaking tradition.
