The Crotti Family has been producing Lambrusco wine for over three generations. Dedicated to organic production, grandchildren Marco, Paolo and Federica have continued the tradition using modern technologies. The vineyards they cultivate are comprised of native varieties of the Lambrusco grape: Marani, Maestri, Oliva, Salamino, Malbo Gentile.

The Giardino Estate sits on the bed of the ancient Zimella River near the Via Emilia, one of the first roads built by the Romans in 189 BCE. The estate is situated on a plateau near the hills of Reggio Emilia, overlooking the Apennine Mountains, in the centre of the Lambrusco area, which includes the provinces of Modena, Reggio Emilia and Parma.

Much of the vineyard’s success lies in the surrounding soil, with a clay underpinning resulting in aromatic and flavorful wines. This dependence on the soil to provide the necessary conditions to grow exertional has seen the vineyards allocate the Suoli Cataldi moniker, a geological classification, for its best wines.

Podere Giardino vineyards similarly benefit from the region’s particular weather, with quite hot summers juxtaposed by frigid winters. This dramatic shift is conveyed into the uniqueness of the soil and the grapes, resulting in exceptional wine that encompasses many of the environmental factors of Emilia Romagna. The vineyard also relies entirely on the Charmat Method for producing wines, a factor seen throughout the quality of its viniculture.

The loamy-clay loam soil, the excellent sun exposure on both sides of the rows, the espalier/guyot systems contribute to enhancing the quality of the Lambrusco grapes. These native varieties come from a rich ancient past. The result is a generously sparkling wine that resembles the people of Emilia-Romagna. Here are born the organic and natural DOC and IGP wines of Podere Giardino.
