Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOC is a sparkling red wine from Emilia-Romagna region. Lambrusco Grasparossa grapes is one of various Lambrusco varieties, grown around the town of Castelvetro di Modena. Fuller bodied and higher in alcohol than other examples, Grasparossa is also the most tannic of the Lambrusco varieties.
The wines are typically made using the Charmat method, as is almost all modern-day Lambrusco. Only a tiny number are still made in the methode traditionnelle typically the very highest quality wines.
Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOC vineyards are located in an area south of Modena and, as the name suggests, this also includes the town of Castelvetro and 13 municipalities in the province of Modena, including Grasparossa.
Any wine bearing the Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro title must be made up from at least 85 percent Lambrusco Grasparossa grapes. The remaining to 15 percent can be made up of other Lambrusco varieties or Malbo Gentile.
The wine is grown around the town of Castelvetro di Modena and has a distinct inky purple colour with aromas of violets, strawberries, plums and black cherries.
Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOC is fuller-bodied wine and higher in alcohol than other Lambruscos, it is also more tannic. The wine’s robust flavour is perfect as an aperitif and marries well with typical Modena pastries and desserts.
